Album Review: Differently (Cassie Davis, 2009)
Overall, Differently is a pretty funky pop album by a rising Australian singer.
Don’t Wanna Dance starts the album off in a killer style. I can safely say this is the second grooviest song about not wanting to dance (behind Kate Miller-Heidke’s Can’t Shake It) and is great to listen to.
The next track is the best of the album and the song that really brought Cassie Davis to fame. Like It Loud is an excellent song backed up with a groovy and catchy chorus.
After a great start, the album drops a little. Reset and Criminal, two fairly similar and fairly generic pop songs follow.
The third single off the album, Do It Again is a catchy song, though not at all as good as the first two tracks.
Nothing You Can Do is a very “in your face” pop song and it is quite “groovy”.
The title track, Differently (also featuring Travis McCoy) is a unique song, obviously about Cassie Davis striving to be different. I like it alot =]
Accompanied mainly by the piano, No More is a beautiful song about changes in a relationship. Not so equally charming is Mess Of Mine, although it is a powerful song I think it is one of the weakest of the album.
Do What I Do – with a cool clicking background – is a jazzy track and one of my personal favourites of the album.
Necessarily however, doesn’t keep up the vibe.
The album ends with the two best songs – Amazing and Hero. The former is a truly beautiful and romantic song, the latter a rejection type song, but the album ends beautifully. There is also a remix at the end, but I’m not reviewing it.
In conclusion, Differently has its ups and downs, but in the end is a well balanced and enjoyable album.
