You’ve Gotta Go Your Own Way

Hello, hello, hello. This has been on my chest for quite a few days now, and I really want to share my frustration.  Hehe. You know Justin Bieber, right?

If you don't then this is J-Bieber.

He has his obvious fans, and his obvious haters.  Well done Justin on having so many fans.  But the hating on him seem extremely unjustified.  From what I see, the people who “hate” him don’t have any particular reason to, but just say that he’s an “annoying homo”, as someone at my school called him. So, what?  Because everybody hates him, does that mean you can’t like him, even a bit?  Although I’m not a massive fan of Justin Bieber, I don’t hate him.  I’m leaning towards the “likers” though, because his music is cool.  But this isn’t all about Justin Bieber. Once upon a time, you could go your own way without being criticised for it.  You could freely say you hated the latest movie even though all your friends were raving about it.  It was fine if you liked classical music despite your friends preferring rock.

This reminds me of a ‘SpongeBob Squarepants’ episode – “The Sponge Who Could Fly”.  Even though nobody supported him, SpongeBob pursued with his dream to fly.  He went against the crowd and wasn’t afraid to do so.

Caught in the Crowd is a touching song by Kate Miller-Heidke.  It is about befriending a lonely boy at school (James) but then following the crowd and betraying him.

If you don’t have the time to watch the video, the chorus is:

I was young and Caught in the Crowd

I didn’t know then what I know now

I was dumb, and I was proud, and I’m sorry.

If I could go back and do it again, I’d be someone you could call friend.

Please please believe that I’m sorry.

The Bible says to get to Heaven you need to follow the path that is straight and narrow.  Do not get transformed by this world, follow God in all his ways.  Friends are great, but they can, at times, be a bad influence.  If your friends are into drinking, doing drugs, swearing, remember; do not get caught in the crowd.  Do not be afraid to go your own way.

  1. I don’t think I wrote this post all too well, but I hope the message shines through 😀

  2. Thank you for the wonderful post, the message is crystal clear. 🙂

I fully agree, and because we’re on the topic of free speech, I strongly dislike Spongebob, despite the mass amounts of people that I know that are in love with the annoying little cartoon sea creature. Seriously, he just annoys me. Anywho, moving on…
I completely get what you’re trying to say. We should be able to be different without persecution, but that only works if everyone comes to that same realization. Which is unlikely. We can hope, but I doubt its going to happen. Regardless, I tend not to worry too much about what people think (which, most of the time, is a pretty good attitude), but I guess we are influenced so much by our friends and what we see around us that its hard not to substitue other’s opinions for your own. I guess you just have to really think about things before you go shouting out your opinion. Make sure what you’re saying is what you’re really feeling.
Risky buisiness, but here’s to truthfulness.

  3. In my opinion, none of his songs are really original (sound the same as any other kids songs). And he definitively needs to improve on his singing pitch so that this won’t happen to him:
    ”Daddy, is that you singing?”
    “Yes Son.”
”Were you 12 at the time daddy?”
“i was 16 *look of shame*”
Yeah. And I too dont hate the kid, but, the fact that every time some long haired “badass”(in direction of how they act in pictures) shows up singing about his girl problems, that every 8-14 year old starts screaming and mucking up the streets and running over people to see them. I mean it goes all the way back to The Beatles, they were good, and it was common for people to react that way to Rock and Roll, but there’s a time and place to act like its the second coming, and then there’s a time to just listen to the music, not pay attention who is performing it. Which is why The Beatles quit touring, they got fed up with the non stop screaming. But this has continued on and on with every band, no matter how horrible they are, if their picture perfect, people will kill each other over them.
    Silly isn’t it?
So yeah, that’s my argument, I don’t mind the kid, I don’t hate him, but, I don’t really think his music is original sounding, and that the hype over him is over-kill, and long past due to meet its maker.

  4. Haven’t heard Bieber’s tunes. Haven’t listened to anything ‘sides K-Pop since ’07, lol.

    Hallo Joshua. 🙂

  5. Oh, and I have a feeling that people who hate on Justin Bieber are jealous of him. 😉

  6. I really like this post. I know what you mean. I’ve been thinking most of the people who hate on him – well, the guys anyway – only hate him because they’re jealous of his fame and fortune and that so many girls like him. I mean, it’s not like he’s done anything bad. He’s just a kid living his dream. He doesn’t deserve the abuse.

And awesome new design! I really like the colour scheme. 🙂

  7. I agree too. I’m not a big Justin Bieber fan, but I think the “Hate Bieber” stuff is a little over the top. I think some people just don’t stop and think sometimes, you know? And good post! 🙂

  8. I’m not a fan of Justin Beiber. I’ve seen people put their middle names as “Bieber” on Facebook!
People are going over the top 😛
    xMr Fun

I would be greateful if you would Return the favour by visiting my blog. Click my name 🙂

  9. I feel the exact same way about Miley Cyrus! I just dont get why people hate her, theres no reason to! Even strongly disliking or even disliking a person you dont even know doesnt make sense. Its stupid. Great Post 🙂

  10. I think you can dislike people without knowing them. Sure, if you got to know them you might like them, but that’s not the case with celebrities (most of the time), and so you have to take them at face value. And sometimes, what you are shown of them by the media isn’t the real ‘them’, but you can dislike it all the same. I mean, some people just don’t click. It’s not always jealousy, it’s just personalities, even if all you see is the facade. Chad, if you’re saying that it’s stupid to dislike someone you don’t know, then is it also stupid to like someone you don’t know?

Personally, I don’t hate Justin Bieber. Good on him for breaking into the music industry at such a young age and all. But I don’t really like him either. His music is ok. But that’s about it.

  11. No, Squishy. It’s stupid that some girls think that they are ‘in love’ with Justin Bieber because of his awesome personality. That is what I call stupid. People ‘like’ Justin Beiber’s singing. That’s OK. But what is truly stupid is that people hate on him for no given reason – same with people who believe he is the perfect guy.

I’ve seen him play the guitar… Or at least I think it was him.

    d(^o^)b

  12. Whoops. I didn’t mean to say ‘awesome personality’. haha

  13. I agree, I don’t think you can love him without really knowing him, nor should you be able to hate him. But if Chad is saying it’s stupid to dislike him, does t it also have to be stupid to like him too?

  14. No? If you like someone if you dont know them, good for you. Theres nothing wrong with liking someone, and its right to. Its wrong to just dislike somebody for no reason. Its dumb and makes no sense.

  15. This is from yahoo answers. The guy asked – Why Do you really hate Miley Cyrus?
    Here it is:

    Okay, let’s get real here.
    You don’t know her.
She’s spoiled? Yeah you wouldn’t be with all that money and fame?
She takes nudes? Please I received worse pictures in kindergarten, all girls have nudes nowadays.
She’s ugly? No she isn’t, I bet no one thought that when the show first came out. And if you honestly think so, so what.
She can’t sing? Please, if you sound so much better. What record deal is signing you?
Her show sucks? Yeah, but is that really a reason to hate someone?
Demi and Selena are cooler? Yeah, but so what.
Now I really want to know more reasons to ignore why you people “hate” Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana.
I’m no fan, but I’m sick of all of you haters.

    Here was the best answer:
Everyone is jealous of celebrities whether you love them or not. For example I love Britney Spears, but a lot of people hate her and think that she’s insane. However a lot of people don’t realize what she has gone through would make anyone crazy. Hell we probably don’t know half of the things that made her go crazy! Anyways I don’t think normal people should “hate” celebrities because we frankly don’t know them personally and its not like they’re our ex-best friends from high school who didn’t keep in touch. We can DISLIKE them, but we can’t hate them since we only know them through the media.

  16. Wanna know why I hate Miley Cyrus?

    Nah, joke. That’s fine. 😀

  17. (This was supposed to be inserted between the two sentences above:) http://www.inquisitr.com/wp-content/miley-cyrus-racist.jpg

  18. Wait, Phi, I don’t get the picture.

Umm, I’m not quite sure where I stand with the hate vs love celebs and stuff.

  19. I still think that I it’s wrong to dislike someone if you don’t know them then it must also be wrong to like someone without knowing them. I mean, liking people isn’t always a good thing. Let me take it to the extreme here, you wouldn’t like a serial killer, would you? Yet you probably don’t know him/her and you don’t know why (let’s call her Lucy) Lucy killed whoever, what her motives were etc.
So, because we don’t know her and therefore can’t judge her, do we have to like her? I’m not saying that we should judge people, going back to celebrities here, like Justin Bieber, because he’s done some remarkable things. Getting into the music industry is wonderful, and it’s great that he’s doing so well and fulfilling his dreams. But disliking people isn’t a bad thing. It’s natural. Not everyone is going to like one another, and despite the fact that some people don’t personally know Justin Bieber, that doesn’t mean that what they have seen of him won’t annoy them and make them dislike him. Hate him? That’s extreme. But dislike, when presented with a logical reason (even if it is just ‘his personality annoys me’) is in my opinion, valid.

I don’t get the picture either Phi! Do explain, my friend.

  20. Ha… Wait, what picture are we talking about?

  21. In light of recent comments I have this to say about Celebs’

    I frankly don’t give a damn.

I’m far more concerned with my own life to follow others and worry about theirs.
    😉

  22. Right on Opus. I’m with you there!

Woahhh, the new background Josh…is this a theme? It’s crazy buisiness! But I like it. ^-^

And Phi, we’re talking about the one you posted above. Haha, it seems you’ve forgotten about it already? That doesn’t sound like a good thing…

  23. ‘We don’t say German in America.’

Lol, not trying to hate on anyone particular. 😛

  24. I still don’t get it..

  25. What, Phi? You’re puzzling us, lol. I have not a clue what you’re talking about.

  26. Uh… Alright…

Here’s the simplified version of my comments:

    Mile Cyrus = Racist

Justin Bieber = A total nincompoop

    Got it?

    Haha.

  27. Thanks for the ‘Happy Birthday’ btw, Josh. I’m surprised you remembered. 😀 Your birthday is… tomorrow? Next week? … Yesterday? Lol. I kind of feel bad for forgetting. :S Close to mine, I remember. (:

  28. Aha, so it was the 4th? I knew it was around a week before mine, I couldn’t decide if it was the 4th or the 9th… Happy birthday again, hope you had a good one. And yes, that comment clears up the confusion. Is that really Miley?
