Book Review: Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta
Finnikin of the Rock is one of those novels that grips you by the scruff of your neck. Well crafted characters and an interesting plot make a good story, right?
This fantasy novel tells of a young boy – Finnikin – on his quest to reclaim his homeland – Lumatere. On the way he, and his guardian Sir Topher, meet a strange novice who claims to know the whereabouts of the king’s heir. This brings back many memories of the dark days of the fall of Lumatere, in which the king was executed and his children disappeared.
Challenge after challenge and twist after twist are thrown at the group. This book has more twists than a road winding up a mountain, and that’s a good thing because Marchetta once again does a good job of keeping the reader interested.
The book is divided into three parts, all creatively named. The description used is immense. My favourite parts of the book are when we get to hear the opinion of Froi, which is extremely interesting.
Now that I think about it, after reading On The Jellicoe Road it seems Marchetta often writes about identity and families.
This book was a good and enjoyable read and to all you fantasy lovers, you’ll enjoy it heaps.
Rating: 4/5

Sorry about all the reviews, I understand it is monotonous to read the same thing over and over again, but in order for the Reviews page to be incredible, it needs to have some reviews on it =]

I don’t mind reading reviews, I mean, I suppose I do run a review blog…
I didn’t like ‘Finnikin of the Rock’ much though. I actually got really bored in it.

I really wish I had gone to Taylor Swift! But I couldn’t since I didn’t have any money for tickets when they came out (blame my book buying if you will) and then when I did, and my friends wanted to go, there were not enough seats for all of us to sit together. 😦

Nice review! Wondering why Froi’s opinion was interesting…
