2010: The Year That Was

Hi, I’m Josh and you’re reading Tinted Lens – in 2011!  Dun dun dun.

Yesterday I announced I was participating in the WordPress Post Every Day in 2011 Challenge, and so far I’m doing fine – 1 post down, 364 to go, haha. 😛

I also mentioned (I think) that today I will be looking at 2010 for Tinted Lens.  The posts, stats, etc.

Stats

  • Tinted Lens received a grand total of 14288 hits in 2010, up from 9073 in 2009. [Although, mind you, Tinted Lens was around for less than 3 months in 2009]
  • March was the biggest month with 2035 hits while October was the lowest with 610.
  • The first eight months of the year all had over 1000 hits, whilst the last four had less than 800 each, although December saw some improvement, with 791 hits.
  • The average daily amount of hits was 39, down from 126 in 2009.

Posts:

Misc.:

  • Yay Day 2010 occurred.
  • The first Tinted Lens O’Shi Contest was held in January.

Goals for 2011:

  • 270 posts!  I doubt I’ll post every day of the year, but I’ll be happy with 270 days – very very happy.
  • Site clean up
  • Reaching a total of 40,000 hits
  • Draw more

Yupp.  And now I’m going to sleep as I’m extremely tired and feel sick.

Happy New Year~

Josh

Reflections: PostADay2011!

I love blogging.

That’s one of the things I remembered throughout the course of 2010, the year that was super duper cool, yet tragic.

There were devastating earthquakes in places including New Zealand and Haiti.  An Icelandic volcano erupted, disrupting tonnes of flights across Europe.  Boats sank, planes crashes.

But shining through the tragedy is this thing called hope.  The Chilean miners that were trapped in a mine for weeks and weeks were rescued, every single one of them surviving.  The Tamil Tigers were defeated and peace returned to Sri Lanka.  Spain won the World Cup.

Friends have come and gone, both in the real world and the blogging world, but I’ve loved 2010 and am ready for everything 2011 throws at me.

I’ve decided to accept WordPress’ challenge and will try my best to blog every day in 2011.

I’ve decided I want to blog more. Rather than just thinking about doing it, I’m starting right now.  I will be posting on this blog once a day for all of 2011.

I know it won’t be easy, but it might be fun, inspiring, awesome and wonderful. Therefore I’m promising to make use of The DailyPost, and the community of other bloggers with similiar goals, to help me along the way, including asking for help when I need it and encouraging others when I can.

If you already read my blog, I hope you’ll encourage me with comments and likes, and good will along the way.

Signed,

Josh

See you in 2011 :]

PS; what an end to 2010 today; it was 40 degrees in Melbourne [hot hot hot!] and I currently have got 55 views today, which is the highest I’ve got in a long long time.  I got 50 a few weeks ago, but I honestly can’t remember getting past 50 for months.

Top 50 Songs of 2010!

Yup, I promised I would write one for this year :]

If this list were written in 2008, the top ten would probably look like this:

10. You Found Me – The Fray

9. Just Dance – Lady Gaga

8. Sex on Fire – Kings of Leon

7. Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) – Beyonce

6. Take a Bow – Rihanna

5. Viva la Vida – Coldplay

4. So What – Pink

3. Electric Feel – MGMT

2. Poker Face – Lady Gaga

1. Bleeding Love – Leona Lewis

And the top ten in 2009 was, of course:

10. Like It Loud – Cassie Davis

9. The Fear – Lily Allen

8. Halo – Beyonce

7. I Gotta Feeling – The Black Eyed Peas

6. Love Story – Taylor Swift

5. Good Girls Go Bad – Cobra Starship

4. My Life Would Suck Without You – Kelly Clarkson

3. Breakeven – The Script

2. Paparazzi – Lady Gaga

1. You Belong With Me – Taylor Swift

And, as I said last year, I probably – most likely – forget many songs that were quite big this year.  If I did…just assume they came in at #51 😛

50. Ridin’ Solo – Jason Derulo

Jason Derulo was one of 2010’s biggest rising stars, with numerous hit singles throughout the year.

49. Just A Dream – Nelly

Nelly comes into number 49 with this recently released song.

48. Nothin’ On You – B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars

B.o.B. started the year strongly with Nothin’ On You.  Together with Bruno Mars, the two were rising stars this year.

47. 3 Words – Cheryl Cole feat. will.i.am

The catchy 3 Words is the only song by either Cheryl Cole or will.i.am to make the Top 50.

46. Smile – Uncle Kraker

This song rose to fame after being used in an advertisement for Packed To The Rafters.

45. Blah Blah Blah – Ke$ha feat. 3OH!3

The first of numerous songs on this list for Ke$ha.

44. Just Say So – Brian McFadden

Delta Goodrem’s husband, Brian McFadden, hit number one in Australia and other countries earlier in the year with this song.

43. Bad Romance – Lady Gaga

Bad Romance is part of an elite group of songs to appear in the Top 50 for two years, last year at #16.

42. Speak Now – Taylor Swift

The title song from Taylor Swift’s album is one of a handful of her songs to appear on the list.  She was at #1 last year with You Belong With Me.

41. Heartbeat – Enrique Iglesias feat Nicole Scherzinger

The first of two songs to appear on this list by Enrique.

40. Today Was A Fairytale – Taylor Swift

Taylor made her acting debut in the film Valentine’s Day, in which Today Was A Fairytale appeared.

39. Only Girl (In The World) – Rihanna

From her new album Loud.

38. You’ve Got The Love – Florence & The Machine

Their quirkiness and honesty made many people fall in love with this band.

37. I Made It – Jay Sean, Bird Man, Kevin Rudolf, Lil Wayne

Jay Sean has had a quiet year after debuting with Down last year.

36. Club Can’t Handle Me – Flo Rida feat. David Guetta

This song appeared in Step Up 3.

35. I Like That – Richard Vission, Static Revenger and Luciana

Not only was this song catchy, but it had a great music video.

34. Haven’t Met You Yet – Michael Buble

Michael Buble makes his first appearance on this list with this song that was released early in 2010.

33. The Only Exception – Paramore

Paramore are one of the most rocking bands in the world, if you ask me.  They’re definitely gaining popularity.

32. iYiYi – Cody Simpson feat. Flo Rida

Australia’s answer to Justin Bieber – 14 year old Cody Simpson – released this song earlier in the year.

31. Misery – Maroon 5

The first single from Maroon 5’s latest album, Hands All Over.

30. Need You Now – Lady Antellebum

Lady Antellebum may have had a huge success in the US with this song, but it wasn’t overly massive in Australia.

29. Forget You – Cee Lo Green

This catchy, groovy song had people singing all over the world – singing the clean version, that is.

28. TiK ToK – Ke$ha

TiK ToK is part of that elite group of songs to appear on two years’ lists; it came in the Top 15 last year.

27. Dance In The Dark – Lady Gaga

The last single to be released from The Fame Monster.

26. If We Ever Meet Again – Timbaland feat. Katy Perry

The first of many hits for Katy Perry this year.

25. Vanilla Twilight – Owl City

Owl City cap off the Top 25 with this song.

24. Firework – Katy Perry

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, Katy Perry sang in this hit song which showcased her versatility and massive voice.

23. Your Love Is My Drug – Ke$ha

Unfortunately for Ke$ha, this was as high as she could climb this year.

22. Baby – Justin Bieber

Bieber Fever swept the world this year, with Justin’s song – some call it annoying, other’s catchy – coming in at 22.

21. Cooler Than Me – Mike Posner

Probably the ‘coolest’ song on this list.

20. Break Your Heart – Taio Cruz

Taio Cruz started his year with this successful song.

19. Fireflies – Owl City

Fireflies performed slightly better this year than last year, where it hit 21st.  Another of the few songs to have appeared on two lists.

18. I Like It – Enrique Iglesias feat. Pitbull

This catchy song was Enrique’s best performed in 2010.

17. In My Head – Jason Derulo

17th spot is Jason Derulo’s personal best.

16. Airplanes – B.o.B. feat. Hayley Williams

This hit song from earlier in the year was catchy but overplayed on the radio.  It featured Paramore’s Hayley Williams.

15. OMG – Usher

The number one seller on iTunes Australia managed to reach the Top 15.

14. Love The Way You Lie – Eminem feat. Rihanna

Something that I think is pretty cool: about ten seconds before I started writing this comment, ‘Love The Way You Lie’ started playing on the TV.  This was a catchy song and Eminem’s only song to reach the 50 this year.

13. Billionaire – Travie McCoy feat. Bruno Mars

In this song Travie McCoy and Bruno Mars dreamed of being on the cover of a magazine next to Oprah.

12. Just The Way You Are – Bruno Mars

Did I mention Bruno Mars had a big year?  This song spawned a large Facebook page: Girl; “Bruno, do I look okay?” Bruno; “When I see your face, there’s not a thing –” Girl; Gosh, I just asked if I looked okay!  [or something like that]

11. Alejandro – Lady Gaga

I was going to write this song had a bizarre music video, but that would be nothing out of the ordinary for Lady Gaga.

10. Mine – Taylor Swift

The lead single from Taylor Swift’s album ‘Speak Now’, to be reviewed early in 2011!  Can Taylor retain her number one spot, or is this as high as she got in 2010?

9. Waka Waka – Shakira

The theme song for the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa got the world on their feet.  It was catchy and patriotic.  I must admit, though, I watched a grand total of zero World Cup games.  Even if they were on at a time other than 1am, I probably wouldn’t have watched many at all.

8. Memories – David Guetta feat. Kid Cudi

David Guetta’s personal best position.

7. Replay – Iyaz

This catchy song was released and rose to fame in January, though it was undoubtedly one of 2010’s catchiest tune and was on replay on many people’s playlists.

6. Teenage Dream – Katy Perry

The title single from Katy Perry’s exceptional album did not fail to impress.  It was catchy and fun.

5. Telephone – Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce

Coming in at #2 with Poker Face and #2 with Paparazzi in the last two years, Lady Gaga once again made the top five with this momentous song, featuring two of the hottest pop artists of the past few years.  It even had a cool music video!

4. If I Had You – Adam Lambert

The runner-up from American Idol a few years back had a big year with a few popular singles, including For Your Entertainment, Whattaya Want From Me (which I unfortunately could not squeeze onto this list) and this song.

3. California Gurls – Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg

2010 was a massive year for Katy Perry, with numerous successful songs, the most successful being California Gurls.  It was catchy, had a great chorus and everyone loved it.

2. Dynamite – Taio Cruz

Dynamite, I suppose you could say, started a trend.  A Facebook group I saw was: “First Dynamite, then Firework, now Grenade [by Bruno Mars]?  What next, nuclear bomb?”  I found it funny.  In fact, this song led to many many Facebook groups being created (“I throw my homework in the air sometimes, saying ayyy-o, I’ll take a zero” and “I throw my hands up in the — oh no, sorry I hit you, are you all right?” among others) and was catchy, had cool lyrics and was one of the biggest hits of 2010.  But not the biggest.

The number one song of 2010 is…
